Dr. Oladimeji Benedict Olalusi

Structural Engineering Lead | Research & Risk Strategy

Dr. Oladimeji Benedict Olalusi is a distinguished, award-winning Chartered Professional Engineer, structural engineering researcher, and educator with over 14 years of combined experience across industry and academia. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Structural Engineering at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa, where he provides academic leadership and mentors emerging researchers in the fields of structural safety, asset integrity, and sustainable infrastructure systems.

Dr. Olalusi’s expertise lies at the nexus of structural reliability, forensic engineering, risk analysis, engineering standards development, and the application of artificial intelligence in civil infrastructure design and assessment. His research portfolio includes more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, collectively cited over 1,200 times, and spans topics such as structural failure prediction, reliability-based design, sustainable construction materials, and AI-driven engineering diagnostics. His PhD research at Stellenbosch University pioneered innovative reliability-based approaches to structural safety, with a focus on performance-based design and probabilistic modelling of shear failure.

Internationally recognized for his contributions, Dr. Olalusi was awarded a prestigious Gambrinus Fellowship at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, where he collaborated on advanced research initiatives and contributed to curriculum development in performance-based structural design. He also holds technical committee appointments with Engineers Australia, the Concrete Institute of Australia, and the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib), contributing to the advancement of global engineering standards and practices.

Professionally, Dr. Olalusi has held senior engineering roles across Australia, South Africa, and Nigeria, specializing in forensic structural investigations, asset condition assessment, and structural risk consulting. He has led the successful delivery of over 400 engineering projects across residential, commercial, industrial, and maritime sectors, often integrating digital twin technology, drone-based inspection, and AI-enhanced methodologies to support data-driven decision-making.

Driven by a commitment to innovation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and lifelong learning, Dr. Olalusi continues to bridge the gap between advanced academic research and practical engineering applications—advancing the fields of structural health monitoring, climate-resilient infrastructure, and sustainable design.
